Nestling on the south eastern side of Indian territory, the beautiful and culturally rich Tamil Nadu is home to some of the picturesque hill stations in south India. Invigorating climate, lush greenery, undulating slopes and rejuvenating atmosphere have made Tamilnadu Hill Stations an ideal destination for visitors to spend their vacations.
There are a lot of famous Hill Stations in Tamilnadu. Ooty and Kodaikanal are the most popular. Yercaud and Yelagiri are the little known, less touristy ones.

1. Ooty - Queen of Hill Stations
Ooty, also called Udhaga-mandalam is another jewel in the crown of Tamilnadu hill stations. It is nicknamed as the Queen of the hill stations of South India, is crowning the Nilgiri's at an altitude of 2240 meters. Ooty is known for its extraordinary scenic beauty and salubrious climate round the year. Green Udhagamandalam better known as Ooty is the most popular hill station in the South India.
2. Kodaikanal - Princess of Hill Station
Kodaikanal is a popular hill station in Tamil Nadu. Situated at an altitude of 2100 meters above sea level and 120 Kms from the bustling city of Madurai, Kodaikanal is a perfect destination for a calm and solitary vacations. The Kodaikanal Lake, Bryant Park, Coaker’s Walk, Guna Caves, Pillar Rocks, Silver Cascade, Dolphin’s Nose and Kurinji Andavar Murugan temple are the popular attractions.
3. Yercaud - A Jewel of the South India
Unlike other popular summer resorts of Tamilnadu, Yercaud is a hidden treasure amongst hill stations in south India. Perfect for a calm and solitary holiday, Yercaud is bedecked with numerous natural charms which are unmatched in their respective sense. It is about 8km from Selam which is the nearest town. Yercaud Lake, Lady’s Seat, Killiyur falls, sevaroayan temple, bear’s cave, silk farm are some of the popular attractions.
4. Yelagiri Hill Station
Yelagiri is a small hill station in Tamilnadu near Vellore. It is a popular paradise destination for trekkers. Yelagiri is another alluring hill resort in TamilNadu. Blessed with pleasant weather throughout the year, Yelagiri is an ideal destination to rejuvenate one's body, mind and soul amidst serene beauty of "Mother Nature". Punganoor lake, Jalagamparai Waterfalls, Swami Malai hills are some of the popular attractions.
The exquisite hill station of Coonoor lies in the wraps of the Nilgiri Hills. It is about 80km from Coimbatore and 19km from Ooty which is another popular hill station. In fact Coonoor is located at an altitude of 1800 m. This is probably the best hill station in the state for trekking. Sim’s park, Dolphin’s Nose Viewpoint, Doorg ruins, Law’s falls are some of the more popular attractions.
Tamil Nadu Climate
Tamil Nadu has a tropical climate with no wild swing between summer and winter temperature. April and May are the hottest months with the mercury often soaring above the 40 ºC mark. Coastal regions also get uncomfortably warm and humid during these months but the nights are usually cool, thanks to the sea breeze that sets in during the afternoons. Summer temperatures are quite equable at the foothills of the ghats.
